OK, I realise there’s a bit of a contrast between the title and that big A over on the right. However, it seemed appropriate as I’ve finally finished all of the wiring.
And, as you can see, the lights work.
I’m not sure I’ve mentioned it yet, but I do have some covers for the headlights which, as soon as I’ve worked out how to attach them, I’ll fit over the headlights. Hopefully, that’ll mean that I don’t bash up the lights all the time, I go through loads of them on the Fury. Mind you, a pair of 7″ lights for the Fury can be bought for about £19 which is barmy cheap. They’re no good, of course, but so what?
As several people suggested—it’s great having loads of people thinking about things—the obvious solution to how to do the wiring was to run the wiring in the bonnet back to the rear and relocate the connector to there on the car. I’d just need a bit of a loop in the wiring then so that I could move the bonnet forward before disconnecting the loom.
Here’s the bonnet positioned in such a jaunty position and you can see the connector for the lighting loom. That meant that I had to run wiring all the way down the inside of the bonnet. Not too big a deal but it wasn’t too clear how to attach it. As you can see in the next photo it’s currently attached with a combination of blobs of PU adhesive and gaffer tape. Sticking wiring down is, of course, why it’s called gaffer tape and is where I first used the stuff when doing theatrical stuff when I was a young and carefree undergraduate.
So, that’s another job that I’ve ticked off my list. People keep asking me when I’ll have the car finished and I sort of mutter into my non-existent beard and shuffle my feet. So, I thought I’d tell you what’s on the list. There is, of course, loads of little bits and pieces that’ll doubtless take me ages. The current intention is that I finish the car this year so that I can do some testing at the start of next year and before next season gets going.
So, the current list is, in no particular order:
- Fabricate some sort of inlet for the airbox.
- Possibly as part of that, make a cover for the upper injectors and fuel line. As it is at the moment it’ll give a scrutineer heart failure.
- Fit dampers and springs.
- Fit roundels and race numbers. Fit other missing decals.
- Fit/fabricate towing straps.
- Make seat
- Box in pedal box.
- Insulate seat back. (I’m worried about getting the driver too hot!)
- Fabricate/fit front ARB.
- Fabricate/fit rear ARB.
- Fit carbon fibre splitter.
- Touch up rear bodywork paint.
- Add some yellow.
- Mount a camera somehow.
- Transfer the transponder (it’s my number) from the Fury.
- Do a mega bolt check.
- Make a windscreen of some form.
- Fabricate a chain guard
- Lubricate and re-tension the chain.
- Fit the catch tank.
- Get a lambda boss welded into the exhaust system. While this is being done, get the little fitting on the exhaust that I damaged re-welded.
- Setup the suspension. This’ll have to be a guess at first but it’s a start.
- Make some sort of foot rest which I’m sure will be needed.
- I’m still not too sure that the pedal box is as sturdy as I want it to be, so check that.
- Pin the lower part of the sidepods to the chassis floor. I’m not totally sure that they need it, but just to be sure…
- Adjust the bonnet pins.
- Make rear undertray
- Fit lamp covers
As you can see, there’s quite a lot of things there! I need to go and lie down and have a rest…
