I took time out this evening from the suspension bushes because I’m waiting for a particular tool to arrive in the post from those nice people at Chronos. Instead I made these things, which are bushes for mounting the engine. They’re just bits of CDS tube, cut to length and faced in the lathe (which means that ends are actually square), welded to some bits of 3mm steel, turned so that they’re mostly round and then a hole drilled in the end and the end faced off properly. Even if I never used it for anything else, the lathe is fantastically useful for drilling holes in the centre of round components, something that’s really difficult otherwise.
Those holes, though, should have some M12x1.25 cap head setscrews going through them. Last time I got some from Andy who had found a source somewhere. I’ve been trying to find my own source and failing dismally so far. Someone must make them surely… If the worst comes to the worst, though, I could adopt the approach recommended by Mark Fisher (of Fisher Fury fame) of pushing an M12x1.75 (the “normal” M12 thread pitch) up the existing mounting in the engine block. Seems rather brutal though…
Also, you might be wondering why I haven’t mentioned the pedal box I talked about last week. That’s because it hasn’t arrived yet. I phoned up OBP today and they said they were waiting for the cable adjuster to come in before sending it. Sigh, you could have told me, especially as my credit card was debited instantaneously. Oh well, best to regard such things as a cock-up rather than a conspiracy.
Tim, have you tried Trident Racing supplies for the bolt?
Anything wrong with e-bay item number 300341379224
perhaps a bit pricey (I think £6 for 4). Or is 12.9 undesirable?
Matt
🙂 Somebody else had already pointed me at those! So, I’ve already ordered some. 12.9 is the right thing, well it’s normal for cap-head bolts anyway. Isn’t the internet wonderful?
